Just a Little Applique

I just finished the applique on a Mystery Quilt hosted by my local quilt guild.  After sewing on the outside border I decided it needed a little something.  Yes, the border would have been a great place for quilting but I am fairly new at machine quilting having gotten my Ansley 26 in July 2012.  It is still like a blank canvas to me and I am not a panograph fan so I though a little applique would be the ticket.  I have always loved applique and in the 1980's and 90's I did a lot of hand applique, like this piece that appears in an article I did for the January 1997 issue of Patchwork Quilts.

Here is a page from the article showing the piece that hangs in my home.
Well, times have changed, there are too many quilts to make, lots more yummy fabric to purchase and machine work is more acceptable now than in the 80's and 90's.  So this is the finished top for my Mystery Quilt.  The pieces were fused on for the reveal in December but the stitch down was finished today with blanket stitch applique.  The actual pieces were quickly cut by the aid of my Studio die cutter.
Well, Mystery Quilt is folded and under Izzy patiently waiting to be quilted, but not today, I'm off to see about starting the construction of some of the pieces for my Cancer Quilt.
Hope you find some great stitching to do today.

  2. So glad you have started this blog. Dick and I have enjoyed knowing you and Mike, and I have been so appreciative of your help. Hardly a day goes by that I don’t dream of another project, and it is so reassuring to know that you are always there with your willingness and knowledge to make the almost impossible a possibility. Looking forward to starting classes again with my 1001 projects. Thanks for having your beautiful hand applique wallhanging on your blog; now I can enjoy looking at it whenever I choose.
